Rockville driver, 44, dies after truck struck by distracted driver
LYFORD -- A 44-year-old Rockville man died Friday evening from injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck head-on earlier in the day by a distracted driver on U.S. 41, just north of State Road 163.
Steven Bundy was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after being airlifted there from Union Hospital of Clinton with internal injuries and multiple suspected fractures.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, Bundy's vehicle was struck head-on by a pickup truck driven by Holly Alward, 21, of Marshall.
Alward is suspected of being distracted by a cell phone and traveled left of center, striking Bundy's vehicle, Indiana State Police reported.
Alward was preliminary cited for driving left of center.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Ford F-250, driven by Alward, was southbound on U.S. 41 and crossed the double-yellow center line, striking Bundy's northbound maroon 1998 Chevrolet 1500.
Bundy was trapped in the vehicle for nearly 25 minutes before being extricated by area firefighters.
Holly Alward and her 22-year-old passenger, Joseph Alward, suffered what appeared to be minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
