Roy L. Detro, 85, of Longview, Texas, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Longview Regional Medical Center.

Roy was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Greencastle, to Roy and Lorean Detro.

He married Myrt Scaggs on July 23, 1949, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Roy began his 33-year career with IBM Corp. in 1954 in Greencastle, and transferred to the Sherman Card Plant in 1958 until his retirement from the IBM Las Colinas facility in 1987.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing cards, camping and fishing, and was an active member at Forest Grove Christian Church in Allen, Texas. He enjoyed volunteering in any capacity where he could lend a helping hand.

Left to carry on Roy's legacy are his wife, Myrt of Longview, Texas; sons Gary and wife Rhonda of Celina, Texas, Mike and wife Linda of Sherman, Texas, and Darrell and wife Vicki of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter Nancy Britain and husband Doug of Longview, Texas; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with another on the way; sister Margie Perry of Waveland, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and sister Kate Clark.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Ken Crawford officiating.

Pallbearers for the service include grandsons, Todd Detro, Grant Detro, Michael Detro, Blake Britain, Paxton Emerson and Earl Shiflett.

Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
