How High's the Water, Mama?

Sunday, August 24, 2014

While the weather system that moved through the area early Saturday evening left some areas of Putnam County with minimal rainfall, the county seat was not so lucky. The National Weather Service reports that Greencastle received 2.73 inches of rain on Saturday, much of which fell in a downpour between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The torrent overwhelmed storm sewers in some spots, such as this yard near Avenue D and Fifth Street on the city's east side, where a clogged sewer grate left more than two feet of standing water. Saturday's downpour was the third hard rain the area has seen in less than a week, including close to four inches of precipitation that fell between Wednesday and Saturday.
