Russellville ready to celebrate annual roundup

RUSSELLVILLE -- The annual Russellers' Roundup celebration is scheduled this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6 - 7.

New at this year's roundup are an ATV Dirt Bike Rodeo, tractor pull and an appearance by the rock band Rhetonk. All of entertainment is free to the public. All events will be at the Russellville Community Center with breakfast served both days from 8-11 a.m., featuring homemade cinnamon rolls. Lunch/dinner will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m.

On Saturday, the Amish will be present with baked goods, produce and crafts. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. in the gym for a cornhole tournament scheduled at 10 a.m. One may call Jim McGaughey at 765-401-1261 with any questions.

Registration is at 11 a.m. for the ATV and Dirt Bike Rodeo. The rodeo begins at noon behind the community center. For questions about the ATV Dirt Bike Rodeo, persons may contact Donald Bannon at 765-307-8424.

Saturday at 2 p.m. a baby and Little Miss and Mister contest wil be staged in the gym. Interested persons should contact Andrea Winn at 765-592-7020 to register. Registration costs $1. All children are to be dressed in denim for the contest.

Other Saturday events include a talent contest at 3 p.m. Contact Donald Bannon at 765-307-8424 for information. Finishing up the entertainment in the gym will be the musical group "Signing for the Savior" at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday's events will feature church service at 11 a.m. in the gym with special music during the service by Beth Waterman, North Putnam Middle School assistant principal.

Registration for the car and truck show begins at 10 a.m. with awards will be presented at 3 p.m. For questions on the car show, persons may contact Larry Finchum at 765-676-5914.

The tractor pull weigh-in is at 1 p.m. with the pull beginning at 2 p.m. behind the center. Contact Tom Howell at 765-866-0383 for additional information on the tractor pull.

Rhetonk, a rock band from Rosedale, will give a free concert in the gym from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Some of the food items on the menu for purchase are fish, tenderloin, ham and beans, barbecue, coneys, potato salad, slaw and homemade pie.

Both Saturday and Sunday will include food vendors, crafts booths, cotton candy, snow cones, lemon shakeups, raffle drawings and a 50/50 drawing.

Mike Simpson will also have his antique tractors to view. Another attraction will be the smoke house.
