Mary Beth Frazier Doheny

Mary Beth Frazier Doheny, 70, of Louisville, Ky., died peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, after an illness.

Mary Beth was born June 3, 1944 in Greencastle, to the late Charles C. and Mary Shank Frazier.

She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1962, attended DePauw University for one year, and transferred to the University of Louisville, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated in 1966 with a degree in elementary education.

She married Frank P. Doheny, Jr., on June 25, 1966, taught first grade in the Jefferson County Public Schools for one year, and then retired to raise her family.

She returned to the Jefferson County Public Schools in 1992 and worked part time in an administrative position in Adult and Continuing Education.

She retired again in early 2014 because of her illness.

Mary Beth was active in civic affairs during her adult life with a special interest in children and families. She served on the board of directors of The

Family and Children's Place for nearly 30 years, chairing the board on two occasions, and volunteering in the children programs.

She was a member of the Junior League of Louisville, and served as president and currently as a sustaining member and member of the Junior League Sustainer Advisory Board. She also served on the board of directors of St. Xavier High School, the Main Street Association, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the Urban Montessori Schools.

She was a former member of the Jefferson County Child Abuse Child Victims Trust Fund Task Force, was a member of the Woman's Club of Louisville

and a former member of the Younger Woman's Club, and a member of St. Boniface Church.

Mary Beth is survived by her husband of 48 years, Frank P. Doheny Jr., and their children, F. Patrick Doheny (Laurel) and Brian C. Doheny (Michelle), both of Louisville, and five grandchildren, Brian Jr., Michael, Maggie, Emma and James.

She is also survived by two sisters, Suzanne Longino (Ray) of Tucson, Ariz., and Jennifer Kay Thomas (Gary) of Pryor, Okla.; three nephews and two nieces; her sister-in-law, Rosemary D. Weller (Joe) of Ft. Washington, Md., and her brother-in-law, Edward J. Doheny of Washington, D.C.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 531 E. Liberty St.; Louisville, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 4 from 4-8 p.m. at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane, Louisville.
