James A. Hedge, 79, of Ladoga, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, 2014.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1935 at Whitesville, Ind., to the late Harry A. and Olive May Morphew.

Jim graduated from Roachdale High School in 1954.

He then joined the U.S. Navy, and following that he worked as a meat cutter for A& P Groceries for 30 years. He also worked for several other grocery stores throughout his life.

He was self-employed as a monument dealer and delivered travel trailers for several years.

He was a member of the Roachdale Christian Church.

On May 18, 1957 he married Emily Gentry at Indianapolis, and she survives.

He also is survived by his five sons, Richard (Amy) of Ladoga, Brian (Beth) Hedge of Crawfordsville, Andrew and Joe Hedge of Ladoga, Alan (Kelly) Hedge of Ladoga, and daughter Theresa Redmon of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brother Howard (Lela) Hedge of Roachdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Estel, Herman, Paul, Dale and Maynard Hedge and one sister, Virginia Ruth Hedge.

According to his wishes he is to be cremated and then there will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home at Ladoga.

There will be a time to greet the family from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the service following. Rev. David Bower will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big Four Arch Rd., Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
