Wide Load Ahead

Sunday, November 23, 2014

Navigating narrow Washington Street just a block east of the courthouse square in downtown Greencastle can be tough enough on a regular basis with the king-size pickups trucks in operation these days or when semis have to pass each other along the tight streetscape that allows parking on both sides. But throw the presence of a wide load into the mix, and it gets even tougher to navigate safely as the driver of the mini-van (at right) found out on a recent afternoon. Luckily, he and others behind him were able to veer off into fortuitously vacant parking spaces on the south side of the street to avoid any serious confrontation.

  • The state and city need to stop parking on one side of Washington street in this area. It is way to narrow for traffic to travel thru safely.

  • I agree with the previous comment....it was bad enough in this area before the "streetscaping", which looks very nice, however it is a hindrance in several aspects. Now, it's downright dangerous in that tight spot...not to mention that you have pedestrians walking through traffic across the street as well. Definitely need a restriction of parking one one side.

  • Going to get a new parking lot. RESTRICT ALL DOWNTOWN PARKING. Bet the court house employees would agree with this!!
