Diane Meacham

Diane Meacham, 79, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 in Ocala, Fla.

Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late James Carl and Reba (Masten) Shoemaker.

Diane was a 1953 graduate of Greencastle High School. She earned her BS degree in liberal arts from Butler University in 1957 and her masters degree from Purdue University in 1962.

Diane taught English and Spanish in Indianapolis, Atlanta and Lafayette and retired from Tecumseh Middle School, where she was a guidance counselor for 22 years.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Washburn Chapter of the D.A.R., Navy Club and American Legion Auxiliary Post 11. Her hobbies included genealogy, crafts, reading and collecting advertising memorabilia from all over Indiana.

Diane's first marriage was to Gary Newman. She later married Robert Meacham. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Eric Newman (Beth) of Alachua, Fla.; two daughters, Michelle VanHorn (Brian) of Lafayette and Jennifer Newman of Sarasota, Fla.; five stepchildren, Deborah Bruggeman (Mark) of Tell City, Karen Ishikwa (Jiro) of Sunnyvale, Calif., Timothy Meacham of Battle Ground, Thomas Meacham (Cyndi) of Lafayette and Steven Meacham (Lydia) of Lafayette; a sister, Dorette Pope (James) of Summerfield, Fla.; five grandchildren; 17 step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

A family graveside service will be held at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army - Lafayette chapters.
