A tough senior night at McAnally Center for the Greencastle boys' basketball team turned into an eight-point loss Friday. North Montgomery took the win 54-46.

"It was disappointing for our seniors," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said. "It's the last game that they'll play in the regular season here. We had such a great first half, being up 10. We come out in the second half and I thought we just didn't perform well."

The entire game was a close one with the two teams trading the lead back and forth.

After being down 13-10 in the first quarter the Tiger Cubs scored 18 points in the second, outscoring the Chargers by 13 points.

Calvin Hughes led the senior unit in the first, scoring two early three-point shots. Freshman Colin York hit two threes as did junior Ryan Coble.

Greenlee is happy to have coached his seniors and thought the first-half effort was great.

"Those seniors are a very special group," Greenlee said. "They been through a lot and they have persevered through a lot of things. One thing I'll never question about them is their heart or their effort. That's always true and it is true tonight."

In the second half the Chargers bounced back and in addition to scoring from the floor they also managed six out of seven foul shots to give themselves a 39-35 advantage going into the fourth.

The Tiger Cubs only got to the foul line to shoot one free throw but they were consistently attacking the rim. However the seven fourth-quarter points from Coble and four from Bollman weren't enough to take the lead.

"It was really a tale of two halves," Greenlee said. "We played well on both ends of the floor in the first half and played poorly on both end of the floor in the second half. It's a tough way to end the season. "

The Tiger Cub seniors came up with major efforts during the win. Bollman was constantly fighting for boards and lose balls, Hughes' first-quarter threes gave GHS the early spark and Colyn Foxx made two big tipin plays at the end of both the first and second quarters.

"I'm really proud to coach them because of the type of kids that they are," Greenlee said. "Our guys are some every high-character kids. It's a privilege to coach them."

Greencastle will gear up for a sectional showdown against Danville on Tuesday. The Tiger Cubs' suffered a heartbreaking 58-57 loss and will be looking to come out on top in the postseason.

"We've got to make sure we sure up some things on Tuesday," Greenlee said. "We've got practice tomorrow at Danville so we'll see what we can do.
