Wilfred Wayne Harmless, 94, of New Winchester, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Village of Avon.

Wilfred was born Feb. 7, 1921 in Putnam County to Alonzo and Flora V. (Lane) Harmless.

He married Louise May Darnell on April 15, 1940, and she survives.

He farmed almost all of his life and had driven a school bus for the New Winchester School for 12 years.

After retiring from farming, he worked part-time for John Deere at Greencastle.

Wilfred's memberships include the Whitestone Christian Church, a 50-year-plus member of the former Groveland Masonic Lodge 542, now Greencastle Masonic Lodge 47, of which he served as past master, 50-year-plus member of the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Valley, a 50-year-plus member of the Indianapolis Murat Shrine and a 50-year-plus member of the former Groveland OES Chapter 330, of which he served as past worthy patron.

Surviving, along with his wife of 75 years, Louise, are his children, William Wayne (Phyllis) Harmless, Groveland, and Jo Ellen (Ronald) Reed, New Winchester; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Harmless, Greencastle, and Nave Lokos, Chicago; several nieces and nephews and a very special couple, Danny and Carolyn Fritzinger, Coatesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Harmless.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 at Whitestone Christian Church, seven miles west of Danville on U.S. 36, with visitation there from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Burial will be in New Winchester Cemetery.
