Local veterans groups set Memorial Day observances

Memorial Day services are scheduled for Monday, May 25 in several Putnam County locations.

At 10 a.m. Monday, the Veterans Section at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle will be the scene of the traditional Memorial Day observance conducted by the Honor Guard composed of Greencastle VFW Post 1550 and Greencastle American Legion Post 58 members.

Meanwhile, Cloverdale America Legion Post 281 will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at Cloverdale Cemetery.

The Cloverdale Legion also planned to place flags on the graves of veterans buried at the Cloverdale Cemetery in a project beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.

In the northern part of the county, Roachdale VFW Post 3284 will conduct a series of Memorial Day ceremonies Monday at the following locations and times:

-- Blakesburg, 8:15 a.m.

-- Bainbridge, 8:45 a.m.

-- Clear Creek (Heritage Lake), 9:10 a.m.

-- New Maysville, 9:45 a.m.

-- North Salem, 10:15 a.m.

-- Barnard, 10:45 a.m.

-- Roachdale, 11 a.m.

-- Ladoga, 11:30 a.m.

-- Roachdale Library, noon.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend any of the local services.

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is a day of remembering the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military service.
