Kenneth Lee Masten, 51, of Denton, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 13, 2015.

Born in Valparaiso, Ind., on Feb. 4, 1964, Ken spent much of his youth in Cloverdale, graduated in 1982 from Greencastle High School and worked for many years at Cummins Behavioral Health Systems in Greencastle.

Widely regarded as "a great guy," Ken enjoyed his faith, family, friends and a love of music.

He played drums as a teen with the Cloverdale United Methodist Church's Gospel Swing Choir and professionally for such Putnam County area bands as Nick Burley and the Iron Man Band, Dead Giveaway and Rollin' Thunder.

After moving to Texas in 2011, Ken attended Denton First United Methodist Church, but remained a member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Alice (Day) and Charles Applegate, of Fort Myers, Fla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn (Masten) and Randy Cain, of Oak Point, Texas; his brother, David Masten, of Greencastle; his aunt Lois (James) Day of Lock Haven, Pa.; cousins Stephen, Brian and Mary Beth Day and their families; and his former wife Barbara Williams Masten of Greencastle.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Masten; stepfather Erwin Neier; paternal grandparents Piercy and Hollis Masten; maternal grandparents the Rev. Wilbur V. and Mary Day; and uncle Donald E. Day.

Tentative plans are for a memorial service at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on July 25. Details will be forthcoming.
