The National FFA Organization has awarded a $1,000 Tractor Supply-Growing Scholars scholarship to ZANE CROSBY of the South Putnam High School FFA.

The scholarship is sponsored by Tractor Supply as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

Crosby plans to use the funds to pursue an agronomy business and marketing degree at Purdue University.

Zane is the son of Todd and Cathy Crosby.

The scholarship is one of 2,156 awarded through the National FFA Organization's scholarship program this year. Currently, 127 sponsors contribute more than $2.7 million to support scholarships for students.

The 2015 scholarship recipients were selected from 7,171 applicants from across the country. Selections were made based on the applicant's leadership, academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural or work experience in agricultural education and future goals.


Four local students were among the nearly 350 students who earned dean's list honors for the winter-spring 2015 semester at Hanover College. To qualify for the dean's list, students must attend full time and have a GPA of 3.5 or better.

* TANNER PARKER, a senior geology major, is the son of Tony and Sherri Parker. He is a graduate of Greencastle High School.

* MICAYLA JONES, a sophomore economics major, is the daughter of Dennis and Patricia Jones. She is a graduate of North Putnam High School.

* COLIN COBB, a senior psychology and philosophy double major, is the son of Terry Cheatham. He is a graduate of South Putnam High School.

* MEGAN ROBINSON, a senior sociology major, is the daughter of Roland and Melissa Robinson. She is a graduate of North Putnam High School.

Located on 650 acres overlooking the Ohio River in southeastern Indiana, Hanover is a nationally ranked liberal arts institution that has core strengths in the sciences, education and business.


ALICE C. MOORE of Greencastle, an incoming senior at Washington and Lee University, was awarded the John McKenzie Gunn Scholarship in Economics.

The Gunn Scholarship was created in 1994 by Professor Gunn's former students in honor of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished teaching.

It is awarded to rising seniors majoring in economics on the basis of outstanding achievement, leadership and character.


Four Putnam County students have been honored by Trine Unviersity for their accomplishments in the spring 2015 semester.

Three local students are among the Trine students named to the president's list.

ROBBIE URTON of Reelsville is a senior studying math education..

KATHERINE HORN of Greencastle is a senior studying applied management.

ROBERT PHILLIPS of Greencastle is a junior studying management.

To be named to the president's list, a student must maintain at least 12 credit hours and have a minimum 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Additionally, DUSTIN SUTHERLIN of Fillmore has been named to the school's dean's list for the semester. Sutherlin is a junior studying management.

To be named to the dean's list, a student must maintain at least 12 credits and have between a 3.5 and 3.749 grade point average.

Trine University, an internationally recognized, private, co-educational, residential institution, offers associate, baccalaureate, and master degrees in programs to students in engineering, mathematics, science, informatics, business, teacher education, communication, criminal justice, golf management, social sciences, and various other fields of study.


Franklin College has announced its dean's list for the spring 2015 semester. Students named to the dean's list have achieved academic distinction by earning a 3.5 grade point average or above.

The following students have been named to the dean's list and are from the Putnam County area.

KAITLIN MICHELLE ARNOLD, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Arnold of Quincy.

NATHAN CLARK BRYAN, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Bryan of Greencastle.

ROBERT JACOB SMITH, a sophomore, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Smith of Roachdale.

CODY DONOVAN WARREN, a junior, is the son of Ronald Warren and Tricia Warren, both of Reelsville.

Founded in 1834, Franklin College is a residential, liberal arts institution with a scenic, wooded campus located 20 minutes south of downtown Indianapolis, spanning 207 acres, including athletic fields and a 31-acre biology woodland.
