Dorothy Mae 'Dot' Glass

Dorothy Mae "Dot" (Herald) Glass, 80, Greencastle, born Oct. 10, 1934 in Indianapolis, to Carl E. and Bernice (Brown) Herald, left this life Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 at home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

A lifelong resident of Indiana, she attended IPS No. 42 and Garden City Grade School, as well as graduating with the Ben Davis High School class of 1952.

Dorothy married Richard L Glass on Feb. 28, 1953 at St Christopher's Catholic Church, Speedway, and was a member of Greencastle Christian Church.

Dorothy shared in raising four children, daughters, Teresa Maher (Steve) Greencastle, Sherrill Reid (Dave) Zionsville, Carla Hurtubise, Alden, N.Y., and son, Richard Glass Jr. (Sharon) North Salem.

Dorothy's early employment was with Empire Finance and Plummer Machine Co. in Indianapolis, along with years of non-for-profit work.

She was co-owner of Glass Antenna and Satellite Service, retiring in 2006.

In addition to her husband and children, Dorothy is survived by sister, Patricia Reading, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, mother and grandson, Michael Hurtubise.

Dorothy sang bluegrass at central Indiana jam sessions; was a master scrapbooker; volunteered with the Putnam County Mental Health organization; was a bingo enthusiast; fished, mushroom hunted, skied, sang at the Billy Graham '99 Crusade, loved Vegas and the lottery, doted over her kids and theirs, was a master housekeeper, gardener, homemaker, wife, parent and nursing home patient.

Viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Conkle Funeral Home Speedway Chapel with a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Additional visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 at Greencastle Christian Church with a service there at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.
