Immediate openings for Indiana older workers

Monday, August 31, 2015

There is good news for older Hoosiers needing help to re-enter the workforce. A local nonprofit has openings in a program that offers training and other services as a stepping stone to employment.

The Indiana office of Experience Works, a national nonprofit organization, operates the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in 43 Indiana counties, including Putnam.

The program is free and provides paid community service assignments at local and public nonprofit organizations, training, referral to needed services, and job search assistance.

"The search for employment can be difficult or even overwhelming for many older workers," David Hicks, state program manager for Experience Works, said. "This is a great opportunity to build confidence and gain valuable skills that respond to today's job market."

The program is available to people age 55 and older, who are unemployed and meet other criteria.

Putnam County residents can apply by visiting the Experience Works booth at the 2015 Senior Fair on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Putnam County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building in Greencastle.

For more information, to find out if you qualify, or to schedule an appointment, persons may call Experience Works toll-free 866-796-8550.
