Willie 'Jean' Ward Emery

Willie "Jean" Emery, 73, of Greencastle, passed away at her home Tuesday, Sept. 29.

She was born Dec. 5, 1941 in Neafus, Ky., the daughter of James and Magaline (Crowder) Ward.

She was a homemaker for the past several years. When younger, she worked for P.R. Mallory and later ran a business called Castle Shade Co.

She will be remembered by many people who knew her as one who loved nature. She liked feeding the birds from her deck and enjoyed watching them come and go at freewill.

Jean's companion for the for the last five years was her Shepherd-like dog, Sophie. She spoiled her rotten by giving her treats and her own bed to sleep in.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Hilda Chapman; and great-grandson Karson Browning.

She is survived by her siblings, Sandy and husband Richard Smiley, Dewain and wife Vicki Ward and Larry Ward; children Timothy and wife Rosealee Browning, Cathena and husband Larry Richardson, Daniel and wife Susan Browning, Angelique (Bennington) and husband Kenny Cowans, Anastasia (Bennington) and husband Brian Shields; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at her home place on Saturday, Oct. 3 for friends and family.
