Daniel R. Sunkel, 55, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.

Dan practiced medicine with the Woman's Clinic for more than 25 years, delivering more than 6,000 babies in the Lafayette area.

He was a fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as numerous other professional affiliations.

Dan was the community adviser for the West Lafayette campus of the IU School of Medicine, and actively supported the Riggs Community Health Center.

He graduated from Greencastle High School (1978), Southern Methodist University (1982), and the Indiana University School of Medicine (1986) where he also completed his residency (1990).

Dan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Helen (nee Reschke), and three children, Claire (24), Richard (21) and Scotlyn (17).

He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, serving for many years as a church elder.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Lafayette Country Club. He was also proud of being an Eagle Scout, and member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Dan is also survived by his parents, Richard and Sally Sunkel, of Greencastle, and his brother, Doug, of Columbus, Ind. Additional survivors are Albert and Barbara Reschke, and Troy Reschke, all of Cape Coral, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his dog, Dudley.

Visitation is planned from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St., Lafayette.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at St. James Lutheran Church.
