NASHVILLE -- Weather condition were not ideal Saturday morning as the WIC cross country meet took place at Brown County, but it didn't have much effect on the Tiger Cubs, one of whom is the new WIC record holder.

Freshman Emma Wilson's time of 18:26 is the new standard in the WIC as her first-place finish was two minutes better than the competition.

Corrisa Proctor, a senior from Brown County who finished second at the meet. previously held the record with 18:59.

Wilson's finish, along with her fellow Lady Tiger Cubs four finishing with All-WIC honors, helped Greencastle earn the first-place finish.

South Putnam took third at the meet thanks to good pack running and a top-15 finish from Maddie McHugh.

"Our young girls team really had a great race," GHS coach Garry Anderson said. They were able to put four runners in the top 15 to make All-WIC. Freshman Emma Wilson finished first, sophomore Arianna Pershing got fourth, freshman Sydney Lewis placed 12th, freshman Seelye Stoffregen finished 14th and senior Katerina King finished 26th."

South Putnam earned its third-place finish in part due to the pack running of Julianna Delano, Samara Young and Ally Nichols finishing at 16, 19 and 20. Rachel Jones was able to get the 34th spot edging out a Brown County runner whose team finished fourth behind South Putnam.

Cloverdale's All-County freshman Chelsie Edwards just missed the WIC honors with her 16th-place finish.

But she'll have three more opportunities to improve on her time of 22:09.

Tori Szalay finished strong at 23rd even though CHS doesn't earn a team score with Clare Plomondon running in her final WCC finished at 44.

Alana Nuņez, Gabby Carney and Sydney Sims finished at 42, 52 and 62 for North Putnam.

While GHS had some nice finishes in the boys' race, including two times good enough to earn All-WIC honors, the Tiger Cubs weren't able to upstage Northview whose runners all finished in the top 20.

Clayton Wilson finished third for Greencastle with a time of 17:27.85.

Cameron Lewis took 14 and the rest of the Tiger Cubs finished better then 30th with Jacob Lewis, Preston Headley and Ben Gellman earning 22nd, 23rd and 28th.

The consistent running of the Tiger Cubs has earned them victory after victory this season, but having earned its goal of winning county and conference Greencastle now must look to the most important part of any season.

"Now we have to focus on getting ready for the state series starting with the sectionals at South Putnam next Saturday," Anderson said. "Hopefully we will be at full strength by then. The competition next Saturday is going to be very tough for both boys and girls. Avon, Brownsburg, and Plainfield are again big challenges. Then the rest of the sectional teams will be seeking that fourth team spot to advance to the regional."

Kieffer Vittetow had the best finish for South Putnam earning second with a time of 17:05. Michael Crossman squeezed into the All-WCC with his 15th --place finish of 17:51.

Logan Vandermark took 19th for the Eagles with Dru Bottorff and Austin Rumley finishing 37th and 38th.

Caleb Duncan finished 32nd as the only runner for North Putnam and Cloverdale's nineth-place finish was led by senior Nick Blundell who came in at 25. Chad Stevens finished at 36 for CHS and Nolan Maners paired up with Rylan Hall for 54 and 55 respectively.
