GHS volleyball beats Eagles

Thursday, October 8, 2015

The Greencastle volleyball team had the upper hand Thursday when South Putnam visited and the Tiger Cubs walked away from the game in straight sets.

GHS took the matches decisively and with the crowd's attendance for Breast Cancer Awareness the Lady Tiger Cubs were amped, taking the games 25-13, 25-17, 25-16.

"We're just working on our faster offense," GHS coach Maggie Walters said. "We had a good crowd tonight. It gets the girls pumped up and makes them play faster which is good for our offense."

Walters said the biggest advantage with playing faster is to get the opposing team out of their system and forcing them into mistakes.

"I thought they did a nice job executing plays," Walters said. "We've been struggling a little bit with putting the ball away. But tonight they were able to find the open spots on the court."

Greencastle will play in the Cadet Invitational Saturday.

Cloverdale had a hard time in its Block Out Cancer game and fell to Riverton Parke in four games. After winning the first match 25-19 the Lady Clovers lost 22-25, 17-25 and 19-25.

"We are always excited for our annual Pink Out match," CHS coach Kathy Moore said. "We have lots of fans in the stands, a big cheer block and the pep band. We love the atmosphere that comes with all that support and the girls played well tonight. I saw more effort and hustle tonight and we came up with some fantastic saves. We have senior night next Tuesday and are waiting to see who we draw for sectionals."
