No notable local filings in final week

Friday, February 5, 2016

Noon on Friday marked the end of the primary election filing period with no new candidates for county-level offices over the last week.

The primary ballot is set at the county level, with Republican candidates for each office, and two contested races, Don Walton and Mike Clark for District 3 county commissioner as well as Gene Beck, Phil Gick, Larry Parker and Jim Wright for three county council at-large seats.

The Democratic party has no county-level candidates on the primary ballot.

One state-level filing of note in the last week is District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird seeking a fourth term. As of the close of business Thursday, Baird had no challenger from within the Republican Party.

However, Kim Fidler, former South Putnam teacher and a UniServe director for the Indiana State Teachers Association, has filed to seek the District 44 seat as a Democrat.

The complete Republican and Democrat ballots, from U.S. president on down to state party convention delegates, will be printed in the Monday, Feb. 8 edition of the Banner Graphic.
