Lois Jean Spencer, 68, of Greencastle, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Lois was the eldest child born to Hershal and Genevieve Hinkle of Roachdale on June 11, 1947.

After graduating from Roachdale High School in 1965, she married Ronald Gene Spencer, who survives her.

Lois was a familiar face at the Greencastle Ace Hardware in the 1980s. She was also a long-time bus driver for the North Putnam School Corporation until she retired in 1994.

After her retirement, she began working for Lawson Brothers Auctioneers in Danville.

In 1984 as a loving and devoted wife she cofounded Spencer Trucking, a business she operated alongside her husband until the day she passed away.

Lois was a dedicated 4-H leader and volunteer with the 4-H Beef program for more than 20 years.

She was also a Past Matron of the Bainbridge Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Stephen Spencer (Amy) of North Salem, Doug Spencer (Tina) of Greencastle, and Ronnie Spencer (Duston) of Fillmore; a sister, Francie Bond (Carl) of Fillmore; along with several nieces and nephews.

Her pride and joys were her grandchildren, Haylie Lynne, Sierra Ranaye, Kyle Douglas and Bronwyn Paige, and great-granddaughter Rowen Lee.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Hinkle, and grandson Clayton Lewis Spencer.

Friends and family will gather from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday April 28.

Interment will be in Clinton Falls Cemetery.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the Clinton Township Scholarship or the 4-H Livestock Scholarship funds.
