BAINBRIDGE -- Around 50 students, staff and faculty members took to the streets (or football field, rather) for an overnight adventure last week in efforts to spread awareness of homelessness and its effects in and around Putnam County.

Through a North Putnam High School Key Club event called A Night Without a Home, more than $2,300 and a bus-load of food and supplies were raised on the Friday-the-13th event, to be distributed between three food pantries -- Two Fish, the Roachdale Christian Church and the Russellville Community Church.

In addition to the pantries, the Beyond Homelessness shelter in Greencastle, New Life Connections in Roachdale and The Creative Change Project out of Indianapolis will also benefit from monetary donations.

Three guest speakers were present for the event. They included: Lyn Smith of Beyond Homeless; Carl Waterman of New Life Connections; and Maurice Young of The Creative Change Project.

Members of the Key Club also put together a three-minute video to accompany the event. The self-titled video can be found at youtube.com/watch?v=Gc-Qeqyvs6g.

Sponsors for the event included Indiana Oxygen, Beacon Signs, Team Image, S&W Feed Center, O'Brien Heating and Cooling Services, Nucor Steel, Spencer Trucking (which did so "In memory of Lois Spencer"), GMG Motors, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Teachers Credit Union, Heart to Heart Hospice, Hendricks County Hospital, Monical's Pizza, Roachdale Elementary, Bainbridge Elementary, North Putnam Middle School, Hay-Bush Mechanical, Richard's Diesel Service, Marsh Supermarkets, Judy Neel, Art Parties with Lori, Hope's Way, the law office of Gary L.
