Dan Whaley

Dan Whaley, 57, passed away Sunday, July 10 at his home in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Dan was born April 18, 1959 in Valparaso to Nick and Electa Whaley. The family moved to Greencastle in 1969. Dan graduated Greencastle High School as a Tiger Cub in 1977.

As a DePauw Tiger, he played varsity football and baseball, receiving his BA in 1981. Dan holds the all-time school record for most pass interceptions. He will be inducted into the DePauw University Athletics Hall of Fame for football and baseball. The induction ceremony will be Old Gold Day weekend on Oct. 29.

In 1998 Dan received his master's degree in social work from Indiana University. Dan worked in the mental health field for Valle Vista Hospital, Greenwood, and Centerstone, Mooresville.

Dan was a memorable adjunct professor for DeVry University, Indianapolis, and Ivy Tech Community College, Mooresville Campus.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his infant sister.

Dan is survived by his wife Marcia, brothers Steve of Georgia and Ron of Florida, sister Susan Chestnut of Greencastle, daughters Kristina and Danielle and four grandchildren.
