Hubble named interim GCSC superintendent

Greencastle Community Schools has filled its superintendent vacancy on an interim basis and did not have to go far to find the new chief.

Assistant Superintendent Jeff Hubble will serve as interim superintedent during the 2016-17 school year, replacing the retired Dawn Puckett.

Greencastle School Board president Denise Sigworth announced the hiring to the Banner Graphic on Wednesday after notifying GCSC staff earlier in the week.

"We are pleased to tell you that Mr. Jeff Hubble, currently assistant superintendent of Greencastle Schools, has graciously agreed to fill the role of interim superintendent for this year," Sigworth wrote in the letter. "Mr. Hubble's experience and familiarity with GCSC, and his involvement in the many initiatives currently underway, will provide important continuity in the coming months."

The board spent several months searching for a permanent replacement and spent last week in deliberations. Sigworth informed staff that the board was unable to reach agreement with its finalist and therefore designated an interim.

"The board is pleased to be continuing its great working relationship with Mr. Hubble, and is confident you will give him the same strong support you have shown to Mrs. Puckett during her administration," Sigworth wrote.

"We are extremely grateful to Mr. Hubble for his continuing leadership and service to the Greencastle Community Schools."

Why couldn't the board make a final decision on the Superintendent?

When words are used in a press release like "'graciously' agreed to fill the role of interim superintendent" for the entire school year of 20016-2017, it sounds a little fishy to me.

Someday, somehow, Greencastle will have an elected school board like the rest of Indiana.

As a former employee of Greencastle I,too wondered why it took the board so long to make a decision. Mr. Hubble is a fine man and educator and should have been their first choice! And yes, it is time Greencastle had an elected school board, the people's choice. But until someone steps up to the plate and does all the necessary work to make it happen, it never will. Good job for Tyler Wade. He did the corporation a hugh service in blowing the whistle when a lot of bad things were happining a few years ago. Mr. Wade, are you up to the challange? It was tried several years ago but the person didn't have all their i's dotted and t's crossed so it fell to the wayside! Congratulations Mr. Hubble!

I interviewed for this position and found the board very professional and passionate about Greencastle and the success of the school district. Congratulations Mr. Hubble. I wish you the best!
